Bad Writing About Games, pt. II

“As is evident from the name, Space Siege will take place in space.”

GameSpot (yes, again).

But will I be able to siege?

Um, I'm not sure it's readily evident why you think that's bad writing. I'd say it's more what writers commonly call a "dig." Mr. Guy Cocker (that has GOT to be a pseudonym) is obviously not happy that he has been assigned to write an article about yet another generic space shooter. There are plenty of reasons to pick on this article, but your quote seems to be one of the few bright spots.

At first glance, it seemed ridiculously banal to me, like a school book report that begins, “Alice in Wonderland is about a girl named Alice in a place called Wonderland.” But, as you point out, I’m prepared to accept the possibility that this sentence might actually be a brilliantly subtle dig at the generic title of this game. It’s an action-RPG, though, not a shooter.
